What’s for Döner

The "DÖNER"

Say "Derner" but miss out the first "r" sound, and you're now officially able to pronounce the strangely looking name of Germany's most favorite streetfood, the Döner. So, what is it? A sandwich? A burger? Nein nein nein :) It is....

Wait, what?? I thought Germans eat Bratwurst and Schnitzel?!

Yea, no, ... In short: During the 70s, originating by Turkish immigrants in the streets of Berlin (the U.S. side of the Wall), Döner overran the German street food market by night, moving Bratwurst, Schnitzel and all that other fattening fast foods to the backseat...

Nowadays you can buy it at every corner in the German streets, from family operated "Döner Shops", at any time of the day. We eat it for lunch, for dinner, in between, after a long night out, or just if we haven't had one for a while. So why is it so popular?

Other than most street food, this one is prepared quickly, it's in the same price range, BUT it's still REAL food. It is handcrafted from the most basic raw products, right in front of your nose, to create one of the healthiest and at the same time most tasteful and satisfying meals that fits into two hands. Whole grain, lean meat, fresh green, and that sauce tho.... No preservatives, no dyes, no artificial flavours.
